If humanity is united in one thing, it’s our universal hatred for queuing up at the bank. (And spiders).
Another common point of contention: Why do banks have to close at 4pm? It’s almost like they do it on purpose knowing we all only get off work at 6pm. Thankfully, to address these issues of inconvenience and more, is the arrival of the POSB Video Teller Machine (VTM).
A first in Singapore, these fancy machines will let you video chat face-to-face with a bank teller, whilst providing a bevy of round-the-clock services including balance enquiry, change of particulars, card services, instant token replacement, fixed deposit, giro amendment and request for statements. This means if you lose your debit card at 3am in a drunken stupor (don’t worry, we’ve all been there), you can just hit up a VTM and get that thing replaced, instantly.
You can try out the first VTM which is currently located at POSB ITE College Central branch at 2 Ang Mo Kio Drive, however it’s still in its pilot stage so it’s only available from 10am to 2pm on weekdays, and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. Selected functions, including internet banking token replacement, are currently available. More POSB VTMs are expected to be introduced to selected branches with their full capabilities up and running 24 hours a day by the end of the year.
Honestly we’re still hoping for mecha-robotic bank tellers, but we’ll take this for the convenience.
