Nokia: Yes, we are coming back

Microsoft's given up, but Nokia hasn't it seems

Yesterday Nokia issued a statement that reaffirms the fact that they will be back in the smartphone business which will revolve around the plan to procure a right licensing partner that will manufacture and distribute their future smartphones to the mass public.

The statement is as follows :

The right path back to mobile phones for Nokia is through a brand-licensing model. That means identifying a partner that can be responsible for all of the manufacturing, sales, marketing and customer support for a product.

If and when we find a world-class partner who can take on those responsibilities, we would work closely with them to guide the design and technology differentiation, as we did with the Nokia N1 Android tablet. That's the only way the bar would be met for a mobile device we'd be proud to have bear the Nokia brand, and that people will love to buy.
The Nokia N1 tablet is running on Android OS, which we may assume that the future devices that will be released by Nokia will be running on Android too. If your interested is really piqued, you might need to wait a while as according to the agreement with Microsoft when Nokia sold its devices and tech business, Nokia is only allowed to sell their own smartphones after Q4 of 2016. So, you might still have to wait if you want to get the next Nokia device.
