New VAIO devices, robots on the way

VAIO brand sees a future beyond just PCs

Sony had sold off the VAIO division to a Japanese investment firm some time back, and the latter said it would keep making PCs but for the Japanese market. Well, that will change soon.

In the works is a new giant tablet , The VAIO Canvas Z, which will be a pricier tablet hybrid at US$2,199. It will be fitted with an i7 processor, a 256GB SSD as well as up to 16GB of memory.

It will be sold via Microsoft stores as well as the VAIO US website, starting October 5. Preorders will likely happen in September.

Besides the huge (and expensive) tablet, VAIO is also planning on making VAIO robots. Could we see a return of Sony’s discontinued Aibo robot dog? VAIO has confirmed yes there will be robots, perhaps dog-shaped, perhaps not, but there will definitely be robots.
