LG's announced what it calls the world's first Quad HD AH-IPS LCD panel for smartphones. In layspeak that's a very, very high-res display and possibly the start of the ppi wars. Can our eyes even take all that screen shininess?
Start of the Display Wars?
So what we're looking at here is a 5.5-inch Quad HD panel with 2560x1440 and 538 ppi. That's some pretty sweet resolution for a small screen. LG claims the new panel will have four times more pixels than HD 1,280x720 and is a mere 1.21mm thin.
LG also says that you will be able to see full displays of, say, webpages, unlike the 3/4ths viewing area currently viewable on ordinary HD screens.
With super high-res screens for phablets, this will likely help push the segment's popularity, the niche that no one expected to explode the way it has. Heck, even Nokia's rumoured to be trotting out a phablet.
We now wait for Samsung's reaction to the news.
