Jaguar’s decided to cash in on the apps in your car phenomenon with its ‘justDrive’ app for the Land Rover.
What exactly is it? It’s a way to hook up popular smartphone apps so you won’t be distracted by them while you’re driving. Of course, the sane, sensible and cheap way to go about it is to just ignore your phone but justDrive adds hands-free, voice-activated features to help you not get as distracted as you would be otherwise.
Wait, you're not Siri
All this is powered by CloudCar, a company that uses speech recognition that is good enough to allow you to speak to your car more naturally. Think of it as “Hey, Siri” but while you’re in the driver’s seat.
An example given by the Jaguar release: you could dictate a message to justDrive, have the message read back to you and then it will be sent without you looking at a screen (and not the road).
The apps that will work with justDrive include Spotify, Twitter and Yelp, just to name a few.
Other possible uses? Asking justDrive to play you specific songs. So if you’re monied enough to own a 2015 Land Rover or Jaguar F-Type vehicle, then you can be free to download justDrive. It will be made available for both iOS and Android. The iOS app will be launched first, made specifically for iOS 8 while the Android one will come later.
