The HTC One M9 is certainly a hot device, figuratively, and apparently literally as well. Thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, the phone ran up higher temperatures than the other phones in a GFXBench benchmark.
Too hot to hold
Included in the testing were the following devices: the earlier HTC One (M8), the iPhone 6 Plus, LG’s G3, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
Of all the devices, the Note 4 ran the coolest while the One M9 reached a certainly uncomfortable to hold 55 degrees Celsius. Of course, this temperature wasn’t reached during ordinary tasks but while running the GFXBench software. It still reached a ridiculous 42 degrees Celsius during 3D games, while other handsets managed to remain below 38 degrees.
HTC’s online communications chief Jeff Gordon did respond to the test by saying that the One M9’s software was as yet unfinished and that the benchmarks were “illicitly” published. So there’s still hope that the One M9 will have its heating issues sorted by final release.
