The date’s been set, the new Funan is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2019.
But way, way ahead of that, CapitaLand Mall has launched Funan showsuite, an experiential popup that will give you a taste of the cutting-edge retail innovation the new mall will have to offer.
Located at the junction of High Street and Hill Street, the showsuite is open daily from 11am to 9pm starting from this Sunday, and offers a whole bunch of interactive activities, workshops and technology centered around the live-work-play ethos of the new Funan.
Expect activities like terrarium workshops, watercolouring, conversations with creative and tech entrepreneurs and an InstaMeet session with Instagrammer Yafiq Yusman. These activities are set to rotate over the coming months, and you can register for them at Funan’s website.
Brand new concept
When the 887,000 square feet mall opens in 2019, the “Tree of Life” will be its centerpiece — a wood and steel structure that extends 6-storeys vertically through the mall. It will house a variety of open platforms and studios that promote new forms of retail, experimentation and social learning.
While the concept of the mall will focus mainly on lifestyle and innovation, fans of the old Funan can still look forward to an entire floor dedicated to IT, with tenants Newstead Technologies, AddOn Systems and TK Photo — which we hear will have a dedicated test zone for drone filming — anchoring the tech zone.
Other confirmed major tenants include Golden Village Cinemas, rock climbing facility Climb Central, FairPrice Finest and a 380-seat theatre designed, managed and programmed by local theatre company W!ld Rice.
While it’s not exactly the tech haven fans of the old Funan were used to, the new mall will feature the latest retail systems and innovation in technology, and looks set to be a promising space for both retailers and shoppers alike.
