End of an era: RIP iPod Shuffle and Nano

The iPod Touch is now the last iPod standing

Apple confirmed that it is discontinuing the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle.

Nice knowing you

In an email, Apple confirmed that it was "simplifying" its iPod range to just the iPod Touch, in 32GB and 128GB options.

The iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle, which had not been updated in years (besides updated colour schemes) have officially been discontinued with neither model being available on the online Apple Store.

While you could probably still find the older models available at third-party retailers (and they're not reliant on software besides iTunes), for most people with smartphones these older iPods are pretty much redundant. With streaming music being the more popular way to listen to tunes these days, loading hundreds of MP3s onto a device designed for nothing else has become passé.

From a generation of music lovers and those who relied on iPods while running or just doing their day-to-day routines, you will be sorely missed. RIP older iPods.
