Disney’s partnership with HOOQ might make it more attractive than Netflix

No more VPN services and thinking about the grey areas of accessing unallowed content

You might have gotten wind of HOOQ. Think of it as Singtel’s version of Netflix, which’ll offer over 10,000 movies and TV series including titles from partners Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Now, let's add one more to the mix - Disney.

Lest you forget, Disney isn’t just about Mickey Mouse. In case you haven’t realised it, Marvel is part of Disney. You know, Avengers and all your super heroes. It’s also the company that’ll bring you Star Wars from a galaxy far, far away. Plus, all the US TV shows from ABC, which are usually aired a few months later on the free-to-air TV channels here.

All this means the partnership will be adding more to the content roster. Given that this is a streaming service similar to Netflix, it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet that you can access anytime, as long you’re paying your monthly subscription to Singtel.

For now, the list of movies from Disney’s treasure chest includes Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Armageddon, Gone in 60 Seconds, Pearl Harbor and more that will be listed in the months to come. Shows that have been named to join the HOOQ lineup include full seasons of Criminal Minds and Grey's Anatomy, to name a few.

Can you expect these shows to hit your TV screens soon? Hold your horses, as the service is in the midst of rolling out, starting with the Phillipines. Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia are said to be available soon in Q1 2015, but last we checked, the service isn't available yet.

Meanwhile, sign up on hooq.tv to be notified when it’s available. And unlike Netflix, you know for sure HOOQ is coming real soon.
