CES 2015: Acer’s new Liquid Z410 4G is more than just a mid-range device

It might be a smartphone with a budget price tag but that doesn't mean its features are understated
Acer’s new Liquid Z410 4G is more than just a mid-range device

2015 might just be the year marking the battle of the budget devices, at least, that’s what it seems like. Just days into the new year, Xiaomi unveiled its Xiaomi Redmi 2 smartphone and now, Acer’s pitting itself against it with the release of its latest Liquid Z410 4G device.

But before you brush off the notion that the Acer Liquid Z410 4G is just your average budget smartphone in the market, have a look at what it has to offer – you might be surprised at its not-so-budget user experience.

This latest addition to Acer’s Liquid Android phone series was shown off at a pre-CES 2015 event, and just like the Xiaomi Redmi 2 smartphone, this unit features a 64-bit processor, although it’s said to be a MediaTek chip instead of the Snapdragon 410 available in most new mid-range devices.

At surface value, it shows off a 4.5in screen with a 960×540 pixel resolution. It’s not the sharpest of resolutions (especially when we’re comparing it to what you get on the Xiaomi Redmi 2) but for a price tag of €129 (S$206), there isn’t much to complain about.

But what draws us to the smartphone is its proprietary features. Acer’s included a new camera app that allows all you selfie-lovers to take a photo with voice commands. All you have to do is simply say “Selfie” and the smartphone will automatically switch to the front camera and take a snap following a three-second countdown.

In addition, it includes the AcerEXTEND feature that lets you control the phone using a Windows PC, and QuickMode, a feature where you can switch to an easier interface for children or the elderly.

Some of the Liquid Z410’s other features include a 5MP rear snapper, a 2MP front camera, as well as 4G LTE connectivity. We’ll bring you the full list of specifications when Acer officially debuts the device at CES 2015, so keep watching this space.
