True story - our boys in blue are going to say, "Smile, you're on candid camera" very soon.
Ok, let's get serious. In a parliamentary debate on the Home Affairs Ministry's budget for the year, Second Home Affairs Minister S Iswaran said that trials for the body-worn camera will begin in the middle of this year.
The idea isn't exactly new - vountries like Canada and the UK have already implemented it on their officers.
But why would cops need cameras on any part of their bodies? Deterring crimes, calming rowdy crowds, and providing useful leads in investigations are just some of the many examples.
Or, just maybe, we'll finally have enough footage to start a Singapore version of reality series Cops. Toss those car-mounted cameras away. With these body cameras, all the action will be up close and personal.
Then again, in a country with one of the lowest crime rates in the world, the localised version might very well be a snooze fest. Crimewatch, anyone?
