Amazon has a Lord of the Rings series planned

Middle Earth is coming for you couch potatoes

Amazon just announced that it has acquired the TV rights for Lord of the Rings.

My precious...Prime account

But the show won’t be a solo effort – Amazon Studios will be working with the Tolkien Estate & Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema.

What can we expect? Apparently the show will revolve around unexplored stories based on creator J.R.R. Tolkien’s original work.

If you’ve already seen the movies, don’t expect rehashes or reboots here. The TV version will be set in the time before The Fellowship of the Ring. Amazon has also stated that the new deal will likely include a potential spin-off series.

Who’ll be able to watch it? Anyone with a Prime account. Seeing how successful Star Trek: Discovery has been at getting Trek fans to subscribe to the CBS: All Access channel, it looks like Prime may soon be packed with Tolkien fans.
