Acer has gone flipping mad for convertible laptops and tablets at IFA 2014.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has taken the wraps off three new convertible devices at the show – the R13 and R14 flip-top laptops and the Aspire Switch 11 tablet/laptop hybrid.
The Acer R13 is the most distinctive of the three, with a rotating screen mounted on a hinge that allows it to be used in six different configurations. You can flip it over into a tent or tablet, or use it as a stand. Or even use it as, you know, a laptop. With a keyboard and everything.
The R13 is available with a 13.3in display in either 1080p or 2560x1440 resolutions, with options for Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, up to 8GB RAM and an SSD with up to 1TB storage; prices start at £700 (S$1442).
The Acer Aspire R14 packs a hinged display that can be set up in four different configurations; Notebook, Display, Tent and Pad modes. It packs a 14in, 1366x768 display, Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor and up to 12GB RAM, with optional Nvidia GeForce 820M graphics. Storage options include 500GB and 1TB HDD, and prices start at £430 (S$885).
Acer's also added an 11.6in convertible tablet to its Aspire Switch range; the Aspire Switch 11. The Aspire Switch SW5-171 packs a 1080p display tucked away behind Gorilla Glass 3, a Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB memory, along with an HD webcam.
The cheaper SW5-171 packs a 1366x768 display, Intel Z345 processor, 2GB RAM and 64GB flash memory; both devices pack microHDMI, microSD and come packing Windows 8.1. The Aspire Switch 11 will be available from October, starting at £300 (S$620).
