Party on at Vibe Beach Sports and Music Festival, listen to new Modest Mouse and Madonna

These are the best ways of filling your weekend up

It’s the weekend! Time to put your party hat on and head out into the sun.

Attend: Vibe Beach Sports and Music Festival

Whether it’s volleyball, soccer or even Zumba you fancy, Vibe has it all. It’s all happening tomorrow, 21 March, at Siloso Beach, Sentosa. The games begin at 10am and will carry all the way through to 6pm with the requisite music breaks inbetween. And if you’re not tired out from the day, stick around for a night of dance to international DJs like John O’Callaghan, Solarstone, and AN21.

Watch: Beauty and the Beast

From the same people behind The Lion King comes another winning Disney classic. It’s like what you remember from your childhood, but with better songs. It’s all happening at MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands and tickets start from S$65. Hurry, for it runs from 21 March to 19 April only.

Watch: Kidnapping Freddy Heineken

That last name should ring a bell with many. Based on a real event, the film follows the kidnapping of the famous Dutch brewer - from beginning to end. Bit of trivia for you, it’s the largest ransom ever paid for an individual. Feel free to throw that knowledge out there. Stars Anthony Hopkins as Freddy himself.

Listen: Strangers to Ourselves by Modest Mouse

It’s been a long time since the American band released a record, eight years to be exact. But if first single Lampshades on Fire is any indication of how good the album is, the wait is worth it. Very reminiscent of classic Modest Mouse with its punchy lyrics and contagious beat, it’s a winner in our books.

Listen: Rebel Heart by Madonna

It’s the Queen of Pop’s thirteenth album to date, but seniority in the world of music doesn’t count for anything these days given that most of this album was leaked way before its time. In the end, six of her tracks had to be released on iTunes shortly after. If you’re a huge fan, head on over to download the tracks - legally.
