Couch potatoes, keep your eyes on these 15 TV shows in 2016

Continue from last season's cliffhanger or have a gander at some of the new shows

2015 was an amazing year for television and by the looks of things, 2016 is shaping up to be even better.

From returning favourites like HBO's Game of Thrones, Veep and FX's American Horror Story to new shows such as Marvel's Luke Cage or the return of the X-Files, 2016 will definitely go down in history as a good year for couch potatoes everywhere.

In anticipation of the year-long smorgasbord of great content, here are the 10 shows (in no particular order) that we are really looking forward to in 2016.

Lucifer

We start our list off with Lucifer, a loose adaptation of the comic book character created by Neil Gaiman for the comic book series The Sandman.

In this show, the genres of fantasy-horror and crime-drama are smashed together as we see Lucifer bored of his job as ruler of the underworld.

So what does the prince of darkness do? He goes to a city that closely resembles hell, Los Angeles, joins the police as a consultant and gets his kicks making sinners suffer.

Think of it like a new version of Dexter, with glowy red eyes.

Marvel's Luke Cage

We first met Luke Cage in Netflix's other Marvel inspired production, the excellent Jessica Jones. Now Cage, the man with the unbreakable skin, gets his own show on Netflix.

It helps that Cage has a great backstory for TV: wrongfully imprisoned, experimented on, sworn to vengeance, all classic TV tropes.

This is all leading up to the next Marvel crossover, The Defenders? Who? Oh, just another Marvel super-group, like The Avengers.

Colony

The brains behind Lost are back, this time with Colony, a sci-fi show about a human population that is ruled by an alien power.

It would seem like this is another futuristic story of human rebellion but this tale is actually one rooted very much in history. The shows' creator drew inspiration from Nazi-occupied Paris and instead of focusing on the big picture, highlights more on the day-to-day life of the citizens there.
