Admittedly, we can't resist the chance to celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday with 50 essential apps.
After all, what better way to truly enjoy life in this smartphone-friendly nation, than to give you the apps that you'll need to keep up with the changes surrounding you.
So in celebration of SG50 (yes, we hear it, #simisaialsoSG50), download these apps if you haven't and enjoy the Jubilee Weekend!
You know those property listings you see in The Straits Times? Well, most of them can be found on the STProperty app by SPH too, and it’s a lot easier to sift through as well. While it doesn’t have as many listings as PropertyGuru Singapore or iProperty, it’s always better to have more options.
Productivity apps aren't usually the prettiest apps around but they get the job done. With ConvertPad, you get an app that helps you with unit conversion of weight, length and many others. Best of all, it's free and has a simple and straighforward interface so you can quickly do conversions of pounds to kilograms or centimetres to inches.
Don’t underestimate this simple app. IC Photo uses your device camera with visual guidelines to take free photos for your online applications or CV. They even conform to the Singapore government’s standards, letting you use them for official purposes. You can also order physical prints to be delivered to you.
DBS PayLah! is an e-wallet app that allows you to quickly transfer money between people (useful for collecting debts owed by friends) after syncing the app with your DBS bank account. Many find it a hassle to log on to their Internet Banking service just to tarnsfer a small amount of money, and DBS PayLah! is a quick and easy method that you can use to transfer money via a Singapore registered mobile number without having to know your friend's bank account numbers. With this, you can even receive payments from a sale you made online without having to give out your bank account number.
Everyone may have their favourite fried chicken joint, but nothing beats the original fried chicken. Should the craving strike, use this app to locate the nearest physical KFC kitchen, or to stealthily place an order during a meeting so that your bucket of chicken arrives just as you’re done. Perfect timing due to the ability to track your order via the app.
If you're a gamer who is also interested in tech and toys, PLAYe is the app for you. Discover as well as purchase the latest products as the PLAYe staff regularly update the store. You can choose to have your pruchase delivered to you or pick it up at the store. But that's not all, as you can choose to showcase your personal collection of games, toys and gadgets to other PLAYe users. Earn points through your purchases or achievements, and you can redeem them for some cool rewards.
Need to sign something or get someone's signature? Formerly known as SignNow, CudaSign lets you do that anywhere, with your iOS or Android device. You can fill up and sign documents with your finger and email them without having to print out the document and physically fill it up. The app is easy to use and comes with bank-quality encryption so your documents are safe.
ASOS is a platform where you can shop more than 850 brands on one site, but you already knew that. And you do exactly the same on the app. You can refine your search if you’re looking for something specific, and if you’re in two minds about any apparel, it can be shared straight on social media for your friends’ opinions. Our favourite feature’s checking out the clothes on its signature catwalk.
Thanks to its round the clock operation, we know we can always count on good old Ronald when hunger pangs hit in the middle of the night. Add that big ol’ burger, fries, and coke combo and it’ll show up on your doorstep in no time. Thanks for enabling greed and laziness at the same time, although we’re really not complaining.
Shop Fresh at Cold Storage
Grocery shopping can be a pain in the behind when you have to trawl the vastness of your supermarket at peak hour. If you already know what you want, save on the trouble by shopping directly via app, and even get notified of the latest deals to save a few cents. Now you won’t have to exhaust the instant noodle supply just because you have no time to shop for fresh food.
If it’s not on PropertyGuru Singapore, it’ll probably be on iProperty. Once the top real estate online resource in Singapore, it now plays second fiddle in terms of listings, and the app is no different. While its features are largely similar to the PropertyGuru app, it’s not as well executed in terms of the user interface.
