The best places to catch Pokémon in Singapore

UPDATE: The ultimate Pokémon Go mass walk is happening this Sunday

Malls and businesses have been dropping nonstop lures, Pokémon tracking maps have been created, and now large scale walks are being organised too.

The Pokémon Go hype is still at fever pitch, so we’ve rounded up some of best places in Singapore to spot and nab the monsters based on location, events, volume of traffic and tip offs from players all over the island. If you’re not catching ‘em fast enough, you might want to check out these local hotspots.

Mass Pokémon Go events

Being a Pokémon master can be a lonely affair, armed with nothing but your phone, portable charger and a deep-rooted desire to catch ‘em all. Well it doesn’t have to be that way, the joys of Pokémon hunting should be shared, and this Pokémon Go SG Mass Walk sounds like a great way to start.

Happening 21 August from 2.30pm, the walk will take a huge group of Pokémon enthusiasts from East Coast Park all the way to Gardens by the Bay, passing by Marina Bay Golf Course and Marina Barrage (hotspots for Dragon and Fairy type Pokémon) in the process. The route will also cover 8 gyms and 53 Pokéstops over the course of 7.8km, which will do wonders for hatching those eggs. The event is free and open to everyone, and the best part – you might just end up catching some new friends too.

Crowdsourced maps

Instead of just dropping lures like crazy, transport app Grab has taken it up a notch by creating a Pokémon Go map populated by actual players. This custom Google map provides information on Pokémon spawn points, nests and gym locations, and is updated periodically with fresh intel based on player submissions. Use it for an overall look at Singapore’s Pokémon distribution, or narrow it down to a specific rare you’re hunting for.

Singtel shops

From 11 to 14 August, Singtel will be dropping thousands of lure modules at PokéStops near their shops around the island. While hunting in the area, Pokémon trainers using Singtel mobile can also collect Pokémon Go Survival Kits containing a disposable poncho, water bottle and a snack. On top of elusive Pokémon, you’ll also have the chance to nab a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 handset each day when you post about your hunting experience on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #Singtel and #PokemonGoSG.

Participating Singtel shops: Ang Mo Kio, Bugis Junction, Comcentre, Parkway Parade, Waterway Point, Bedok Mall, Causeway Point, Jurong Point, Tampines Mall, West Mall
