30 of the best new Pokémon to look out for right now

These may be the most powerful and rarest Pokémon to appear in the newly announced Niantic update

The time has come for you to wipe the digital dust off your Pokémon Go app.

Niantic’s newly announced update to Pokémon Go adds 80 new Pokémon from the original Pokémon Gold and Silver, upping the total Pokémon count. With so many new Pokémon to choose from, we’ve compiled some of the best new and rarest Pokémon in the latest update you can catch, evolve for your collection, or battle.

The new Grass type starter Pokémon, Chikorita, evolves into Bayleef, then Meganium. It’s said the aroma from its petals calms emotions, and its breath can revive dead plants. Expect a moveset similar to Venusaur.

The Fire type Typhlosion is the final form of Cyndaquil, which evolves into Quilava in-between. Its mane of fire can cause huge explosions, and if it’s angry, anything that it touches will burn. It’s the new generation equivalent of Charizard.

The Water type Totodile is one of the new starters you’ll be able to choose. It evolves into Croconaw before finally becoming Feraligatr. It bites with massive and powerful jaws, so it could have the Dark type move Bite. It should be comparable to Blastoise.

The new Pokémon Go update will introduce Pokémon with dual typing not seen before in the original 151. Lanturn is a dual Water/Electric Pokémon that evolves from Chinchou. This means its only weak to Grass and Ground types.

The Lighting type Ampharos evolves from Flaffy, and is the final form of the sheep Pokémon Mareep. It’s said the bright tip of its tail helps send signals to lost people. Expect this Pokémon to be one of the brightest sparks in the new update.

Bellossom is an alternate evolution form of Gloom, a Pokémon you can find among the original 151. It’s a Grass type known for its move Sweet Scent in the original games, which lowers enemy Pokémon’s evasion.
