Denon AVC-A1XVA review

Multi-tasking might be an awkward word for many gadgeteers, but fear not, Denon has made an AV receiver with more tricks than Uri Geller

It’s a beast

Feast your eyes, bank-balance and bad back on this behemoth from Denon. It might look slightly out of proportion, but you’ll have to trust us, it is that big, and even heavier.

In the mammoth chassis is a very accomplished machine – as you’d rightly expect for nearly £5k. It caters for just about every surround processing mode, has HDMI upconversion, and, best of all, you can run two complete 5.1 surround packages from the one unit, completely independently.

The best around

As well as being a really very good surround processor that turns its hand to music reproduction too, it’s fully capable of home networking, thanks to an Ethernet port – which also handily doubles as a computer port, allowing you to take control of the receiver with your computer.

If you want the very best of all worlds in one box, and you’re willing to pay for it, there’s not much to better this on the market.
