The price tag guessing game has begun for Microsoft’s wannabe iPod killer – and the first bets are on $299.
So says TWICE website, which claims to have spoken to retailers who – in turn – have allegedly been visited by the folks from Zune.
TWICE’s story, if correct, also confirms our suspicions that Zune will be 30GB and the Wi-Fi ‘music sharing’ will work by allowing you to bookmark tracks while on the go, and later download them via your PC at home. Stuff’s still hoping you’ll be able to download straight to the player – a clear one-up on the ubiquitous iPod, but potentially a battery drainer too.
The price is at least an educated one. Apple’s 30GB iPod costs $299 in the States, so Zune would land on an even footing with its nemsis. Theoretically, $299 would translate to £150 here, but judging from UK Pod prices, it’s more likely to come in around the £220 mark.
More whispers as we get ‘em.
