Do you enjoy watching music videos on YouTube? Well, prepare yourself for some bad news: next time you head over there to catch the latest offering from your favourite beat combo you could be faced with nowt but a blank screen – and it’s all down to the British music industry, of course.
According to YouTube’s Patrick Walker, the issue stems from an inability to forge a new licensing agreement between the website and the Performing Rights Society for Music, the group responsible for collecting royalty payments for artists.
The upshot is that all official music videos of UK artists have been removed from YouTube until further notice. It's hoped that a deal can be brokered in the near future. In themeantime, we'll just have to make do with the spoofs and mashups that are often better than the original offerings anyway.
