[intro]You'll soon be able to watch YouTube vids on your TV if you have an Apple TV - suddenly Apple's set-top box is a must-have.[/intro]
Just a quickie, this one - after all, I should be in bed right now, but I've just received a press release announcing that YouTube videos will soon be available to view through the Apple TV set-top box. It'll begin with thousands of videos mid-June, ramping up to the entire YouTube catalogue later in the autumn. All will be navigable from the comfort of your sofa, using the Apple remote. You'll even be able to log in and save favourite clips.
I'm already a little bit in love with the iPod-for-your-TV, but the addition of YouTube makes it a gadget must-have: I'm finally be freed from the horrors of broadcast TV. And not a moment too soon, what with the imminent start of Big Brother.
Finally, I can spend my evenings watching people miming to their favourite songs, balancing things on their cats and pretending to be Jedis. Actually, it suddenly sounds like a Chris Tarrant clip show on ITV. Perhaps it's not so groundbreaking?
No, no, this really is a huge step forward. Apple just needs to plug in Joost's online TV service and I'll be foaming at the mouth.
In other news, Apple will also be offering a 160GB build-to-order Apple TV - so how long until it launches a movie rental service to go with it? Fingers crossed.
