On the scale of mouse bothering to neighbourhood shaking noise, Yamaha’s NX-U10 USB speaker is more likely to deafen your furry, cheese-loving lodgers than the Jones’ at number 11 – but it still carries the honour of loudest USB-powered speaker on planet earth. Due to the ‘leccy limitations of a standard port, most USB speakers kick out a maximum of 0.5W per channel; barely enough to bother a baby badger. But Yamaha has endowed the NX-U10 with a ‘Charged Capacitor Amp’, which pumps up the power to 10W flowing through each channel. It’s not entirely tethered to your PC or laptop though, the silver speaker will also run on batteries and a standard 3.5mm input means it’ll get friendly with your iPod, PSP or pretty much any music playing device you’d care to introduce it to. You can shake your walls to their foundations, well, if you live in a shed perhaps, sometime before Christmas.
