Once you’ve seen one MP3 speaker system you’ve seen them all. They tend to take the form of plastic docking monstrosities that sound as bad as thay look. However, might we suggest you feast your MP3-loving eyes at the funky and innovative NX-A01.

Designed to perch on your desktop, Yamaha’s tiny box of sonic tricks uses fancy SR-bass technology to produce a beefy bass kick- a sound that, for such a tiny design, is fairly surprising.

Power and volume controls can be found on top of the cube, while the line input means you can connect your MP3 player via a 3.5mm jack. (The Japanese version even features Bluetooth compatibility for listening to tunes from a mobile phone.)

The NX-A01 costs £100 and should hopefully be the first of many such products from Yamaha.
