Some people like to hang an atmospheric Edward Hopper print or a sweeping Constable landscape on their wall, but not Yamada – no, it prefers to hook a DVD player on its partition.

The Chili Style-630X isn’t just a retro disc spinner, as it features DivX-friendly playback, surround sound output and parental controls too. Which is a good thing, otherwise we’d suspect that it had just come from our uncle’s garage clearout.

The door slides across the unit to make sure guests don’t get unnecessarily clotheslined as they walk into your lounge, and a remote control is bundled in the deal.

As much as we like the idea of hanging our gadgets on our walls, the Yamada’s best feature is its price. We’re not expecting any miracles from a £40 player, but it’ll do for the secret LCD we’ve got in our shed.
