Yahoo!'s extending its branded mobile service to Nokia's series 40 handsets.Already installed on smartphones like the N80, the custom application will now be available to the mainstream granting access to Yahoo! Mail and Messenger. Just like with its big brother version, mail can be downloaded and stored locally on the handset for speedy offline viewing. Messenger adds instant messaging to the mix, complete with the usual array of emoticons.More of a mouthful is Yahoo! Personal Information Management (we'll call it PIM for short). Especially useful for those who are prone to leaving phones complete with vital contacts in the corners of dark pubs, it'll synchronise all your numbers, tasks and appointments between PC and phone.First to be bestowed with Yahoo! powers will be the new 6300, together with the 5300 XpressMusic (pictured) and the 5200. Other Series 40 handsets should follow.Meanwhile Google's not taking it lying down. Its recently revamped Gmail app will work on any Java phone. Touché.
