Having torn ourselves away from our shiny new Xbox 360 just long enough to read a few emails, it seems some people are having a little trouble getting hold of their own.
Following the launch on 2nd December, when the few remaining consoles that hadn’t been pre-ordered were snapped up, just about everywhere has sold out. It’s prompted some to suggest that Microsoft is (shock horror) holding back supplies to hype up the launch. While that would make it the same as just about every other console maker, Xbox’s European director says, ‘not so’.
In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz Neil, Thompson’s promises that: ‘We're not leaving the market dry for six, eight, twelve weeks - we're going to come out with more product every single week. That's really the situation.’
That’s news to desparate gamers in the US where the console launched on 22nd November, ten days earlier. Stores there are still waiting to get fresh stock in – as comments on Microsoft employee, John Porcaro’s weblog testify.
And after all this, what is it that most people do when they’ve finally got their hands on one? Start playing Call of Duty 2? Nah – stick it on eBay and collect a two ton profit.
