UK Xbox boss Neil Thomson has used an interview with Eurogamer TV to launch an astonishing attack on Sony – for including Blu-Ray in the PlayStation 3.
One of the major criticisms of the Xbox 360 is that it doesn’t include a high-definition video disc format and, although Microsoft has announced a plug-in HD-DVD drive, many pundits believe the difference could prove to be a decisive factor in the battle of the superconsoles.
But Thompson told an interviewer that Sony is ‘making people pay an extra few hundred pounds for a Blu Ray DVD drive’. Why is that bad? Well, because it isn’t clear whether HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will become the standard for high-def video discs.
Which is a fair argument, except that the inclusion of Blu-Ray in the PS3 spec has been predicted to be one of the decisive factors in the battle of the high-def formats.
