It’s still unclear which next-gen console will get the official Stuff nod of approval but, if you’re a die-hard football fan, you may as well order an Xbox 360 now – it’s signed exclusive deals for both Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Fifa 2007.
In an Abramovich-like swoop, Microsoft has secured a 12-month lockout on both of EA and Konami’s next-gen titles, which mean neither can appear on PS3 or Wii until autumn 2007 at the earliest. As European boss Chris Lewis boasted, the 360 now ‘owns football’.
Current-gen formats such as the PSP and PS2 will still get versions of the games, but the exclusive on next-gen sequels is a huge coup for Microsoft considering both versions of the games are still in the top 10 across all formats for sales, despite being released almost a year ago.
Still, the PS3 and Wii won’t be overly concerned – both consoles are prepping tasty launch line-ups that will hopefully transcend minor facelifts of old franchises. Our recent play with Nintendo’s new sports games revealed some welcome originality, and we’ll be getting some more hands-on time with the PS3’s big launches in California next week – make sure Stuff’s in your favourites bar.
