Wolfram Alpha and Google play nice, Microsoft geared for Kumo launch

What a bumper week for search engine news. No wait, come back... Hot on the release of "knowledge engine" Wolfram Alpha, comes a nifty little Firefox

Hot on the release of "knowledge engine" Wolfram Alpha, comes a nifty little Firefox plug-in that allows you to browse both Google and WA on the same screen (see below).

I've yet to test fully, but this seems like a great tool, especially for research purposes and quick fact checks, Google supplying the most popular links, Wolfram running out relevant statistics and hard facts.

In other news, it's been reported by the Wall Street Journal that Microsoft's search engine project, Kumo looks set to become reality next week.

The much-touted successor to Live Search is rumoured to be unveiled at the D: All Things Digital conference. Much like Wolfram Alpha, Kuro is expected to organise search results in a smarter way than simply pages of links.
