Good news everyone – your favourite facts and lies website, Wikipedia will soon support facts and lies in video form. Wikimedia Group has recently bought masses of servers from Sun Microsystems, which means that users will be able to upload files of up to 100MB. So larger image files and video will be able to be uploaded.
Wiki is also working on a collaborative online video editor with a company called Kaltura, so that users will be able to amend entries in much the same way text can be reworked at present. Just click “edit this video,” and you'll see an iMovie-like interface with timelines as well as soundtrack and voiceover tracks and even some special effects.
You'll be able to see at a glance how many users have contributed and compare their cuts. The project is in beta at the moment, and is being tested on WikiEducator, so hop on over if you fancy a test drive.
