Watch out Bluetooth, there’s a new wireless technology in town.Wibree (where do they get these names from?) does the same job as its Swedish cousin but needs a mere fraction of the power so it can sit inside anything from wireless mice to multi-function watches without putting a strain on the battery. The pay-off is a paltry 1Mbps data rate (so no chance of transmitting stereo audio à la Bluetooth) but that's still more than enough for a whole range of handy functions. Slap a Wibree chip in a pedometer and it could beam a record of your jog to your mobile, whack one in a watch and it could get time updates from your PC.Nokia reckons it'll start appearing in kit we can buy before next summer, either on its own or alongside a Bluetooth chip. Expect Nokia phones to be among the first to champion it.
