So, Nintendo’s new DSi has just waded into a mighty fight, not only with Sony’s PSP, but with what Apple reckons is the next big thing in gaming – the iPhone and iPod Touch. With Nokia fancying a piece of the action with N–Gage too, things are getting a little crowded, no? So take us by the hand and we’ll pick the right console for you to waste away your days with.

Classic with a twist

Nintendo DSi

You want all the DS has to offer, but with a few neat extras. Well, you need the new DSi. It’s thinner, but doesn’t have the GBA attachment you need for Guitar Her On Tour, sadly. Still, a 3MP camera and two full touchscreens should make up for that.

Sony PSP

You want a good size screen and ‘proper’ games. The PSP has been given another facelift this year and is expected to come packing a hard drive soon. It’s still top dog if you want a console–style experience on the move.

iPod Touch

You love the touchy feely gadgets and want futuristic gameplay. Well, you need the iPod Touch. Last month’s iPod launch saw them push the Touch as the ultimate gaming decice, using the tilt sensors and touchscreen to full effect. Spore Creations and Real Football are awesome.

Nokia N81

You’re done with Snake and want something a little more challenging. Nokia’s N–Gage has been given a massive relaunch this year and the N81 is where it’s at. Easy to use and with Games including Fifa and Asphalt 3, it’s great for a quick blast on the train.
