It's Friday – time to feel all warm and fuzzy
It's about this time that you have the crushing realisation that your New Year resolutions to cure cancer, save the world, stop biting your nails, etc may never actually happen. Wearewhatwedo.org can help give you the inspiration to make some small changes that could make a big difference – and make you feel pretty smug to boot.
Here's how it works: there are a list of suggested actions that you can sign up to include in your life, from the enviro-friendly (planting a tree, use energy-saving bulbs etc) to ones that will make you – and hopefully others – feel a little better (smile and smile back, spend time with someone from a different generation, bake something for a friend).
You can choose as many or as few as you like (for instance, I draw the line at "reading a story to a child") and then track your actions and others' online in a big altruism competition.
The site isn't preachy or holier than thou – everything from the design to the actions listed are designed to remind you that humans are basically pretty fun. Even a black-hearted cynic like me felt a little fuzzier.
Go on – sign up for some actions for over the weekend and let me know how you get on...
