Telling the time’s a piece of cake, isn’t it? And a particularly simple cake, even, like a Victoria sponge or rock cake. So how come you had more than one lesson at school on what the big hand’s for? Yep, it’s not as easy as it might seem now. In fact, to recall your youthful confusion, try staring in befuddlement at this binary watch.

The funky new Ibiza Ride timepiece tells the time using three columns of LEDs. The first column’s for hours, the second for tens of minutes, and the third for single minutes. There are even a few more LEDs down the bottom for keeping track of the date.

The good news is that, once you’ve finally stopped banging your head against a wall and checking out how much you could get for your new watch on eBay, working out the time will be easier than with a boring hand-sporting watch.

The Ibiza Ride isn’t just about funny lights and a name that would sound more apt in a Newquay surf shop, though – it’s waterproof to 30m, built like a Tiger tank and looks pretty darn spiffing.

It costs just £130, so there’s nothing to stop you from popping onto Firebox.com and adding to cart.
