Nokia's N97 handset isn't even on the shelves yet, but it seems a blabbermouth at Vodafone may have already let slip its successor, called the "N97 Mini".
A moderator on the Vodafone Ireland forums known as "Ev from Vodafone", was discussing the availability of the N97 phone on the network with users when he let slip the news.
"Vodafone Ireland will not be launching the N97 but will be launching the N97 Mini later this year. Due to the N97 Mini’s competitive pricing, we feel that it will appeal to a wider segment of consumers", read his post.
Into Mobile even got it confirmed from Vodafone Ireland's Twitter feed, and got screen grabs of the forum post in question. Suspiciously, now both the tweet and forum message have been deleted.
If true, there's no news on specs – except you can probably put your money on the fact it'll be smaller. It's just an inkling we've got.
Ev also let slip a couple of other gems worth noting, including the news that the Storm 2 will launch on Vodafone later this year, and that the Palm Pre will be a network exclusive for another operator, but not Vodafone. Perhaps those O2 rumours had some legs then – but both the iPhone and the Pre? That'd be some good going.
We'll keep you updated, but let us know what you think to it all below, and be sure to check out our hands on video with the non-mini N97.
