Featuring prominently at the Vista launch were new Vista Gadgets – little information nuggets that reside on the spangly new sidebar.Thankfully we won't be restricted to a bunch of US-centric ESPN, Comedy Channel and MTV imports. Instead Microsoft's worked hard to forge deals with UK-based providers including ITN, who head up the news offering. The virtual Trevor McDonald sadly doesn't include a pixelated version of the great man himself, but does offer breaking news, sports, showbiz and money with 'fly out' video to fluff out the text-based news in briefs (no, not those comments on page 3 in The Sun). Especially keen newshounds can set the Gadget to alert them audibly whenever a new story breaks. But we're most looking forward to playing with the 'On this day in history' feature. Every day a new nostalgia-soaked video vignette of history will be served up in a 90-second video chunk. The archive stretches back to the late 1800s so they should have a bit to go on.Lucky Vista owners can get the Gadget right now, direct from the ITN site.
