Virtual Console coming to Nintendo DSi?

According to a report over at Kombo, Nintendo is planning an impressive new feature for the upcoming DSi – a Wii-style Virtual Console download service offering retro Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles.

Apparently the service will only include first-party Nintendo games, meaning the likes of Tetris, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land 2 and Donkey Kong '94. Not a bad selection at all.

Games will reportedly download to an SD card, costing 500 and 800 points for GB and GBA games respectively.

The bad news is that games will be region locked, so if Nintendo restricts Virtual Console to Japan (the only confirmed market so far) and the US, us Brits won't be able to join in the downloading fun. Unless we buy a Japanese or US DSi, of course.

If Kombo's info is accurate, it seems like there'll be one more reason for existing DS or DS Lite owners to upgrade to a DSi when it launches on 3rd April. You can read about more over at our 5 things you need to know about the Nintendo DSi article.
