We're used to seeing our gadgets shrink to ever smaller proportions, but Nintendo has gone and lasered the DS Lite with the other end of its ray gun to produce the new DSi XL.

This super-sized DS – which has been available in Japan since November and will launch in the UK on March 5th – has two huge 4.3in screens which also claim to have wider viewing angles than the DS' 3in displays.

Other than that, it's very similar to its little brother. The finish (it'll also be available in dark brown) and build quality have been slightly improved, and the ergonomics are better for our man-sized hands.

On the down side, Nintendo has removed the GBA slot, which means no backwards compatibility or add-ons like the rumble pack. We think we can live without those though.

We'll have a full review soon, but in the meantime scroll down for more pics and face-offs with the DS Lite.
