HTC hasn't been shy about releasing a string of high–end phones in 2008. From the Touch Diamond to the T–Mobile G1, they've been at the forefront of taking the touchscreen fight to Apple.

However, their latest release, the S740, is more of a compromise. First unveiled back in August, we've finally managed to cajole one from HTC. As well as a regular keyboard up top, you can slide out the back to reveal a full QWERTY to send off lengthier missives berating colleagues and the like.

Considering that, the 2.4in QVGA screen does seem a bit too snug. However, HTC has been careful to add in a string of top features, including push email, HSDPA, Wi–Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD support and Google Maps.

Being HTC, this is very much a Windows Mobile device, making it even more niche. But if you're stuck between the growing predilection for QWERTY keypads and good ol' T9 style, then this may be the phone for you.
