Two iPad Minis with Retina displays on their way

Apple gets set to launch a Retina display iPad Mini with an eye-watering screen, followed by another upgraded version soon after

Our cup runneth over – Apple is set to bestow not one, but two, iPad Minis with Retina displays upon us in the next 12 months.

According to DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim, we can expect the iPad Mini with Retina display to arrive around September 2013. He also suggests that the next generation, which will also have Retina credentials – plus a faster processor – should arrive around April 2014.

Since Apple likes to keep screen ratios simple for their app developers, it’s likely that the iPad Mini’s screen resolution will double in the Retina display version. That means jumping from 1024×768 up to 2048×1536 for a retina tickling 324ppi. As for the processor upgrade, we’d expect the current iPad Mini’s dual-core A5 chip to be replaced by the A6X from its big iPad brother.
