As we claimed merely a few short months ago, touch really is the new button. Everyone’s at it: Microsoft, LG, HP (the computer people, not brown sauce bottlers), Apple, even shy smartphone supremo HTC.

Today, HTC has launched its iPhone rival, the Touch, and promised to revolutionise the way we use our mobiles. Hmm, haven’t we heard this somewhere before?

So does it live up to the iPhone? Well there’s a 2MP camera, Wi-Fi, navigation via gestures and, er, GPRS, so in that sense, yes it does.

Rather than a full OS like the iPhone’s, however, it runs the brand spanking new Windows Mobile 6. Whether it’ll be as slick and intuitive as its Apple flavoured cousin remains to be seen.

In the meantime, check out live coverage of the launch and Tom Dunmore’s first impressions of the HTC Touch on our blogs.
