Now here's an idea – why not make a car stereo with a docking bay for a TomTom sat-nav, so you don't have to mount it on your dash? A good question, well answered by this new unit from Eclipse.

Eclipse, you say? The high-end daddy of egg-shaped speakers? Why yes, except this time it's teamed up with TomTom to create the AVN2210p, which generously gives you a One sat-nav as part of the package.

Apart from the convenience of not having a ugly box suckered to your dash, the unit offers tons of features, including CD playback, an FM/AM radio and a USB port which makes it compatible with iPods and Bluetooth dongles for hands-free calls. It's tentatively priced at just under $1000 for its US spring launch, and will be in Europe by the end of the year.
