While Apple and Sony have busied themselves with new Macbooks and Blu-Ray laptops, Toshiba has stealthily produced this straight-laced but powerful little bundle of computing joy.

The Satellite Pro U200 is the first 12in laptop in its range, and is packed with features that will bring back the smile that’s been missing from your miserable face since 1995, when your last laptop was pinched by thieves.

They won’t bother with the U200 – not because it’s rubbish, but because it sports EasyGuard features, which includes a scally-proof Biometric Fingerprint scanner.

All that security protects some impressive computing power, with Intel Core Duo processing, up to an 80GB hard drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while the spill resistant keyboard and shock-protected hard-drive make it a hardy soul.

It should be good for films like Domino (above) too – there’s a double-layer DVD drive, and the screen’s of the WXGA (1280x800) variety.

The U200’s price is principally £940, but you don’t need to budget for that – register it quickly on Toshiba’s site and you’ll get two thirds of that back if England win the World Cup. Which will all be as straightforward and easy as counting to ten, then feeding the result through a polynomial equation.
