In one of the more humungous announcements of the year, Toshiba has just unveiled its plans to equip its entire 2008 laptop range with spangly HD DVD drives, as currently featured on the Qosmio G30 (pictured).Toshiba senior VP, Hisatsugu Nonaka, was the one to break the news with the understated explanation that 'people want to watch their favourite movies in high-definition on the road.' You bet we do, Mr Nonaka, you bet we do.Whether it'll be enough to bolster the flagging HD DVD cause is another matter. The format of choice for Toshiba, HP and Microsoft has been taking a bit of a kicking since the launch of Sony's Blu-ray-packing PS3 both Stateside and in Europe. But here's an interesting stat for you: Sony had flogged 5.5 million PS3s by the end of March, but last year Toshiba shifted 9.2 million laptops.
