We've seen a raft of new Blu-rays, including Sony's new duo, now Tosh is fighting back for the HD-DVD camp with its own pairing.Like the two Sony players, the HD-EP30 and EP35 both get 1080p output and 24p playback but in true HD-DVD they do it for a fraction of the price, and add Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS HD as standard. The budget choice is the 30, which comes in around £20 cheaper than its Sony Blu-ray counterpart. A little bird tells us it'll be available at Tesco so look out for it next time you're browsing the aisles. For true bargain-hunters, though, it has to be the 35 which gets 7.1 channel audio and Tosh's Deep Colour "anti-Daz" for blacker blacks for £140 less than its Sony S500 rival. Course, you won't get the Spiderman Trilogy thrown in, but you could console yourself with the new Transformers movie instead. And fret not if you've already got a HD-XE1 or HD-EP10. Toshiba will be bestowing them with a 24p upgrade via a firmware upgrade in the near future. Thoroughly decent.EssentialsToshiba HP-EP30, EP35Price: £280, £360On sale: October Contact: ToshibaRelated stories:Sony's two new Blu-Ray beautiesTosh chops cost of an HD disc spinnerParamount and Dreamworks – only on HD DVD
