TomTom GO x50 LIVE series hits the road

Having infamously failed to win our September issue’s sat-nav test – that honour went to the Navigon 7310 – TomTom has responded wit

The GO 950, 750 and 550 LIVE sat-navs all come with TomTom’s nifty IQ Routes tech, which draws on historical traffic info to work out the quickest route. But it’s the ‘expanded LIVE services offering’ that’s piqued our interest.

Its new interface will apparently give at-a-glance access to traffic alerts, safety info and fuel prices via a new LIVE snapshot. But you still need to pay £8 per month for the privilege – much more than Garmin’s new equivalent called nuLink, which gives you the first year free, then costs £70 per year.

Also new are a new eco routes option – TomTom’s green too, you know – and a frequent destination menu, so you need to do less fiddling before putting your foot down.

The 950 LIVE covers the US, Canada and Europe, while the 750 LIVE and 550 LIVE feature maps for Europe and the UK/Ireland respectively.

All three will go on sale this autumn, though pricing is yet to be confirmed – we’ll update you when it comes in.
