The Dutch are a jammy bunch. And never more so than now, since they’re due to get the whizziest traffic and travel time information service by the middle of next year.TomTom’s patented technology will convert Vodafone’s raw GSM signalling data into real-time traffic information and deliver accurate time information to travellers. Anyone who’s been 30 miles away from their destination with a sat-nav telling them they have 5 minutes till they get there will appreciate the potential here. One for the roadVodafone’s data can be converted into accurate traffic and time data, taking into account the speed and direction of cars travelling throughout the Dutch road network. The new system aces TMC in a number of ways. First, it will cover all major roads, rather than just motorways. Second, it’ll carry details of door-to-door travel time, rather than information of the traffic jam you’re currently stuck in. And finally, since it takes into account the entire journey, rather than a specific detour, the service can compare numerous alternative routes in real-time.  Ok, so we won’t get it immediately but you can guarantee that if the service proves successful, Voda will bring it to the UK. Fingers crossed, people.
