Two years ago we were raving about 'pocket' sized LED projectors. Then last year we saw the Digismart micro-projector designed to be plugged in to UMPCs or portable consoles. This year, though, it's all about nano projectors – tiny devices that can fit inside other gadgets.Back in March we heard how Texas Instruments had been getting along with its TI DLP pico-projector, now we hear that over in sunny California, nano projection gurus, Explay, have been showing off a finished product. The Oio is, according to Explay, the first truly mobile and fully operational nano-projector. We'll have to take its word for the high image quality and brightness but just to be able to pack a projector into something the size of, well, an iPod Nano, is pretty remarkable. The Oio should be out next year while the technology inside could also be licensed to mobile phones, portable consoles and even camcorders. Hmm, a Sanyo HD2 with a built-in projector – it’s the stuff of gadget dreams.
