We'll grant the French have been good for some technological advances. Half of Concord and the, er, croissant, for example. Now they can add one more to their long list because French firm Thomson has come up with this shrunk-down PMP.Measuring less than a credit card's height and width across it manages to cram in a three-inch widescreen, pushing the controls to the sides to make room. It'll spin 320x240 pixel movies at up to a cinema-matching 24fps, as well as photos, MP3s and WMAs stashed on its 2, 4 or 8GB flash memory.Oh and they've even found room for an FM radio, but not a proper headphone jack it seems. The built-in one's only 2.5mm so you'll need to snare a 3.5mm adaptor to plug in your Sennheisers. It's appearing in the China and the States shortly. Hopefully those Frenchies won't keep us Europeans waiting too long for ours.EssentialsThomson A1 2GB, 4GB, 8GBPrice: £TBA ($90, $105, £120 in US)On sale: TBA Contact: ThomsonRelated stories:Gadget of the Day – Genus VIZO PMPReviewed: Thomson Lyra PDP2356KThomson finds sat-nav, adds new media players
